COME ENJOY THE OUTDOORS AT BIG BEAR LAKE
In July and August, the USARC takes to the fresh waters of Big Bear Lake for wet and wild water skiing, jet skiing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, sailing, and fishing. Using a variety of modified and standard recreation equipment, along with a skilled staff of recreation therapists, lifeguards, licensed boat operators, and expertly trained volunteers, the excitement and adventure of these sports are safely introduced to each participant.
An exciting off-road, downhill wheelchair program offers access to back-country terrain and gravity-fed thrills previously available only to mountain bikers. Participants who want to leave the beaten path will feel the freedom of descending through the forest on wide-open fire roads or narrow, twisting trails. Bumps, ruts, rocks, roots, and ravines are smoothed by the four-wheel suspension on these “Chariots” while disc brakes provide speed control and sure stops.
Summer sessions are either single day or overnight sessions held at accessible campgrounds. Popular overnight camping programs combine two nights of camping fun with a variety of the above water recreation experiences.
The USARC is in deep gratitude to North Shore Marina, Holloways Marina, and Big Bear Marina for their generous hosting of our programs and vessels. Without the support of these exemplary and socially aware businesses, the USARC’s life-changing summer programs could not exist. Please remember them during your next visit to Big Bear Lake.
